The Herbarium of the University of Santiago de Compostela stores approximately 110,000 specimens distributed among the collections of vascular plants (SANT) and non vascular plants (SANT-Lich, SANT-Bryo and SANT-Algae, which is the largest collection of algae from Spain).
SANT collections are mainly from Galicia and its surrounding territories (Northwest Iberian Peninsula), and this is the main reference herbarium for researchers of the three Galician universities. It has also frequently exchanged vascular plants with other Spanish herbaria, and ocasionally with some other institutions from all around the World. The collections are often consulted by researchers for projects "Flora Ibérica", "Flora Liquenológica Iberica", "Flora Phycologica Iberica" and "Flora Briofítica Iberica".
SANT is also actively participating in digitization of type specimens of many other Spanish herbaria for the Global Plants Initiative project.
