The Herbario de la Universidad de Panamá functions as the national herbarium of Panama. The collection principally includes specimens of vascular plants and bryophytes, mostly from Panama . It also has lichens, algae and fungi specimens. The total of processed specimens is 110 156 and unprocessed about 52 000. One of the main goals of the National Herbarium of Panama is the diffusion of knowledge through the information obtained from the specimens deposited in its collection. The PMA Herbarium is a Global Plant Initiative partner has contributed with 2198 types, from its collection, to the project.
