The Herbario Nacional de Bolivia (LPB), is part of the Instituto de Ecología, Universidad Mayor de San Andrés and the Museo Nacional de Historia Natural. It was founded in 1984, and houses about 250,000 specimens of vascular plants, bryophytes and lichens, being thereby the largest herbarium in Bolivia, this includes about 13,500 species of vascular plants, 1,750 species of cryptogams with collections all over Bolivia. LPB is divided in six sections: lichens, mosses, ferns, dicotyledons, monocotyledons, and palms. The high Andean and montane flora of the Yungas are strongly represented; LPB has the best botanical library in Bolivia. The new dryer is ample and has sufficient space to handle the amount of material collected by projects.
LPB, its staff has access to the GIS laboratory of the Institute with ArcView and ERDAS capabilities.
