Founded in 1984, currently employs more than 27,000 copies, mainly Gymnosperms, Angiosperms and Pteridophytes, also a small collection of fungi and lichens. Nomenclatural has 48 types, including 2 holotypes and 3 isotypes.
Within the herbaria institutional relationships have been established with: Missouri Botanical Garden (MO), Botanischer Garten und Botanisches Museum Berlin-Dahlem (B), Natural History Museum of London (BM), Royal Botanic Garden (K), New York Botanical Garden (NY), Field Museum of Natural History (F) and the Institute of Biology of the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (MEXU), among others.
Among the most important collections are some collected by Fritz Hamer (orchids) and Ralph Seiler (ferns) and some copies of Otto Rohweder (ferns), Paul Standley and Salvador Calderon (various).
