The Herbarium of Kagoshima University Museum (KAG) was founded in 2001, in order to safeguard and preserve the specimens collected by successive botanical researchers in Kagoshima University (1949-present) and its predecessor, Kagoshima Imperial College of Agriculture & Forestry (1908-1952).
The KAG houses 180,000 preserved specimens of flowering plants and ferns collected in Japan (especially the southern part of Kyushu Island and Ryukyus), Taiwan, and other countries.
