INSTITUTO CIENTÍFICO MICHAEL OWEN DILLON
The Instituto Científico Michael Owen Dillon (IMOD) is an institution oriented to research, conservation, education and transformation of natural resources. In a multi and interdisciplinary approach to preserve life and make a proper use of our biological and cultural diversity, and promote a harmonious coexistence of society in the environment.
The name of our institution has been dedicated to the distinguished Botanical Scientist Michael Owen Dillon, researcher of the Field Museum of Chicago (United States), in recognition of his scientific contribution and his permanent collaboration with Peruvian botanists.
HERBARIO SUR PERUANO
The Herbario Sur Peruano (HSP), was founded in 2013, is assigned and managed by the Instituto Científico Michael Owen Dillon (IMOD), It has a collection of more than 17,700 plants and lichens.
In 2015, the Herbarium was recognized by INDEX HERBARIORUM; and in 2016, the Servicio Nacional Forestal y de Fauna Silvestre (SERFOR) authorized as national scientific institution the depository of biological material, according the resolution No. 140-2016-SERFOR-DGGSPFFS and authorization No. AUT-ICND-2016-001.
The Herbarium’s collection has samples of the vascular flora and lichens from the coast, mountain range and the Amazon rainforest, mainly from the southern region of Peru. This material comes from researches in different areas such as: Systematics, Genetics, Ecology, Conservation, Phylogenetic Studies and Species Modeling; product of which has been published multiple scientific articles and including new species for science.
