Information
Erect, scandent or spreading shrub, 1.2–4(–6) m. tall; bark smooth, purplish, lenticellate; branchlets often hanging, black, sparsely adpressed pilose when very young, soon glabrous. Leaf-blades oblong to oblong-elliptic, 3.2–11.5 cm. long, 1.3–4.6 cm. wide, obtuse at the apex, rounded or slightly subcordate at the base, thin, sparsely adpressed pilose or glabrousabove save for the midrib; adpressed pubescent and glaucous beneath; venation not conspicuous; petiole 2-5 mm. long, sparsely pubescent or glabrous. Flowers solitary or rarely in 2-flowered inflorescences, extra-axillary; peduncle 2–5 cm. long; bracteole situated near the base, leafy, round or ovate, 0.8–1.9 cm. long, 0.6–1.5 cm. wide, rounded at the apex, cordate and clasping at the base. Calyx triangular-tray-shaped, 3.5–5 mm. across, very shallowly 3-lobed, adpressed pubescent. Petals yellow or greenish-yellow, thick; outer transversely elliptic or rounded ovate, 4–9.5 mm. long, 4–8 mm. wide, rounded or subacute at the apex, concave, brownish pubescent all over; inner elliptic, 3–9 mm. long, 2–5 mm. wide, slightly clawed at the base, pubescent, concave, slightly keeled. Stamens ±15, 1.5 mm. long; filaments 0.7–0.8 mm. long; connective thickened, the prolongation obliquely truncate. Carpels 10–15; ovary linear, 1.2–1.5 mm. long, 2-ovuled, glabrous; stigma sessile, 0.3–0.4 mm. long, glabrous, truncate. Fruiting pedicels 2–5 cm. long; monocarps orange or red, 4–8(–11), ellipsoid or cyhndric-ellipsoid, 0.8–1.4 cm. long, 5–6 mm. wide, rounded at the apex, 1(–2)-seeded, slightly constricted between the seeds, somewhat glaucous, glabrous, slightly rugose; stipes 2–4 mm. long. Seeds yellow-brown, ellipsoid, 6–7.5 mm. long, 4–5 mm. wide, flattened at one end in 2-seeded monocarps. Fig. 22/2, p. 91.
