Information
tomentose; leaves ovate or ovate-lanceolate, acute, subcordate at the base, on very short petioles; panicle oblong; flowers dioecious or polygamous. Stem 2–3 feet, stiff, simple, 4-cornered, as well as the leaves and panicle densely covered with short greyish hairs. Leaves with some smaller in the axils, 1–1 1/2 inch long, 6–10 lines broad, quite entire, when old often subscabrous. Stipules 3–6-parted. Panicle 1/2–1 1/2 ft. long, trichotomously compound, leafy or nearly naked; the branches and pedicels erect, spreading, rough-hairy in fruit, much shorter and more rigid than in G. circæoides. The specimens from Caffraria are polygamous (and hermaphrodite, E. & Z.), those from Natal mostly dioecious. Fruit obovate, densely papillate, 1/2– 3/4 line long.
