Tree to 30 m high, evergreen; bark smooth, reddish brown; branchlets with golden pubescence. Leaves paripinnate, not infrequently apparently imparipinnate due to suppression of one leaflet of the apical pair, including petiole 18–23 cm long; petiole 2–4 cm long; rhachis not winged; leaflets in 2–3(–5) pairs, opposite or usually alternate, obliquely lanceolate, 6–11 x 1.8–3.8 cm, glabrescent, entire, often tinged purple above or on both sides, acuminate at the apex and sometimes with slightly apiculate tip, cuneate at the base. Inflorescences broadly paniculate from old wood, 2–6 cm long, glabrous or puberulous; pedicels 3–5 mm long. Sepals 5, broadly ovate, c. 3 x 5 mm. Petals 5, with broad, hairy scale at base inside, ovate to subcircular, white, c. 3 x 4 mm. Disk annular, slightly undulate, glabrescent. Stamens 10(–14); filaments c. 4 mm long, glabrous. Ovary c. 2 mm long. Fruit leathery, ellipsoid, 2.5–3 cm long, brown, with c. 2 mm thick pericarp. Seed ellipsoid, c. 15 x 9 mm.
