An erect herb with leaves to 2 cm wide, and leaves and inflorescence to 60 cm high; flowers yellow-green or brown reddish; on shallow soil over rock on the savanna in Guinea, Mali and N and S Nigeria, and in NE Africa.The fruits and corms are eaten in Guinea in time of famine (1–3).
