Description
A tree to 26 m high of the high-forest occurring from the Ivory Coast to S Nigeria. The bole is slender, and slightly fluted, sap-wood is light brown and hard (7). The wood is elastic, very durable and tough. It is not attacked by termites (3, 4, 5), and finds use as house-posts, axe-handles (6) and like purposes.The slash is light brown and sweetly-scented (7), and the powdered bark is used in the Ivory Coast as a sinus decongestant in cases of colds or headache (2).The seeds are pounded to make a poultice for boils in S Nigeria (8).
