Xylia mendoncae Torre [family LEGUMINOSAE], in Mendonça, Contr. Conhec. Fl. Moçamb. 2: 94, t. 9 (1954). Type: Mozambique, Vilanculos, Mendonça 1913 (BM; K; LISC, holotype; LM).
Information
Small tree 4-7 m. high; branchlets, petioles and leaf-rhachides glabrous. Leaves with petiole 4-6 cm. long; pinna-rhachis 6-10 cm. long; leaflets in (3)4-5 pairs, mostly 3-6 x 1·5-2·5 cm. (smaller ones may occur with the inflorescences) elliptic to somewhat ovate- or obovate-elliptic, usually rounded to rounded-cuneate at the base, glabrous beneath except on the midrib and margins. Flowers in heads c. 1·5 cm. in diam. on supra-axillary subglabrous peduncles (2)3·5-8 cm. long; interfloral bracts oblanceolate, 2-3 mm. long. Flowers 6-7 mm. long, sessile or almost so (pedicel to c. 0·25 mm.). Pods 11-12 x 3-3·5 cm., glabrous.
