Information
Annual erect herb, 0·2–0·6(1) m. tall. Stem hirsute at the base. Leaves up to 18–57 x 5–16 mm., alternate, narrowly elliptic to lanceolate, ± obtuse and mucronulate, with cuneate base, hirsute at least on the lower leaves; margin incrassate, undulate–crenate; midvein and lateral veins prominent beneath. Inflorescence lax; pedicels up to 25 mm. long, glabrous or hirsute. Hypanthium obconical, 5–nerved, glabrous or hirsute. Calyx–lobes 0·7–1·6 mm. long. Corolla 1·8–3 mm. long, white to blue, split almost to the base into linear–lanceolate lobes, glabrous or with a few hairs outside. Filament–bases dilated, ciliate; anthers 0·6–0·9 mm. long. Ovary 2–locular, semi–inferior; style as long as or longer than the corolla, often blue, eglandular, hairy below, subcapitate with 2 very short lobes at the apex. Capsule 2–locular, 5–nerved, glabrous or hirsute; valves 2, c. 1 mm. long. Seeds 0·5–0·6 mm. long, elliptic in outline with acute ends, trigonous; testa almost smooth.
Habitat
In grassland, woodland, waste places, or on cultivated ground.

Notes
W. perrottetii is close to W. ramosissima, and I treat it as a distinct species mainly because of its relative uniformity in a very large area of distribution including most of tropical Africa, Madagascar and S. America. Most of the subspecies of W. ramosissima instead have a very restricted distribution. The same applies for the next species, W. paludicola. Although very unlike W. perrottetii, W. paludicola is also close to some of the forms in the polymorphic W. ramosissima.
