Notes
Faden has named material from K 7 and T 3 as V. zosterifolia Willd. (Sp. Pl. ed. 4, 5: 406 (1810); type: Réunion, Bory de St. Vincent (B, holo., microfiche!) = V. angustifrons Bory (1804), non Michx.). Tardieu-Blot (1953) keeps up both V. zosterifolia and V. hildebrandtii, distinguishing them by the spacing of the fronds and basal cells of the rhizome-scales. Kassner 177 (Kwale District, Shimba Hills, 1 Mar. 1902) and 397 (Kwale District, Makoni, 20 Mar. 1902) are probably V. elongata .Peter cites no specimens under V. elongata and his reference to Kilimanjaro must refer to some other species – perhaps V. volkensii. His reference to V. loricea Fée (described from Java) sounds from the key also like V. elongata but the localities, W Usambara, Mazumbai and S Pare Mts are not possible for this species. His material was at least partly probably V. guineensis .GENERAL Peter cites 36 specimens of Vittaria in F.D.-O.A., of which I have seen only 6, so his interpretations are in some cases conjecture.
