Vitex cuneata Schumach. & Thonn. [family LABIATAE], Schauer in DC. Prod. xi. 694.
Information
A tall tree; branchlets glabrous, tetragonal. Leaves 5-foliolate, coriaceous, glabrous on both sides; leaflets obovate-cuneate, entire, all distinctly stalked, end one reaching a length of 6–7 in. Cymes axillary, long-peduncled. Calyx campanulate, pubescent, shortly 5-toothed. Corolla scarlet, pubescent; tube as long as the calyx, densely bearded at the throat. Fruit as large as a plum, blackish, edible.
Distribution
Upper Guinea “Guinea,” Thonning.
