Annual or perennial, erect to climbing herb; stems glabrous or slightly hairy. Leaflets 3, usually ovate or triangular, 1.5–16.5 x 1–12.5 cm, entire or 3-lobed, glabrous or sparsely pubescent on both surfaces. Stipules submedifixed with an entire spur, 2–6 mm long. Inflorescences subumbellate, few–several-flowered. Calyx glabrous. Standard white, greenish, yellow or purplish, 1.2–3.3 cm long, glabrous. Pods 5.5–10 x 0.3–1.1 cm (may be longer in cultivated races), glabrous or scabrous. Seeds ± oblong; hilum one-third to half the longest dimension, eccentric.
