Information
Woody herb or shrub 75–300 cm tall; stems branched in upper part only, densely pubescent with brownish hairs, glabrescent. Leaves ovate to lanceolate, 3.5–16 cm long, 1.6–7 cm wide, base cuneate or subtruncate to cordate, margins serrate, apex shortly acuminate, slightly scabrid or thinly pubescent above, rather thinly pubescent to grey-tomentose beneath. Capitula aggregated in dense terminal clusters; involucre 7–13 mm long; phyllaries 3–5-seriate, oblong, with lanceolate or ovate appendages, the appendages white or white with faint pink tinge, the longest phyllaries 8.5–13 mm long; appendages 5–10 mm long, 1–3 mm wide. Corolla bright to pale mauve or bluish white, fading to white, 10–14 mm long, lobes 1.5–2.2 mm long. Achenes 3–3.5 mm long, sparsely pubescent on the ribs, glandular in between, rarely glabrous; pappus multiseriate, 6.5–8 mm long. Fig. 37/3–4, p. 164.
