Information
Woody herb or shrub 60–250 cm tall; stems numerous (always?), scabridulous-tomentellous. Leaves lanceolate or ovate, 5–13.5 cm long, 2–5 cm wide, cuneate or rounded-cuneate to a short exauriculate petioloid base, margins serrate, apex acuminate, scabridulous above, thinly pubescent to tomentose and glandular beneath. Capitula rather few in terminal corymbiform cymes; involucre 20–34 mm long; phyllaries 5–6-seriate, oblong to shortly broadly oblong with broadly ovate to lanceolate to short triangular appendages, the longest phyllaries 20–28 mm long, including appendages 13–19 mm long, 7–13 mm wide, pink or purple. Corolla white tinged mauve or pink, 15–18.5 mm long, lobes 1.3–1.5 mm long. Achenes 3.8–4 mm long, pubescent; pappus 9–11.5 mm long.
