VISCUM cylindricum Polh. & Wiens [family VISCACEAE], in Novon 7: 279, fig. 2A–C (1997) & Mistletoes Afr.: 303, fig. 40A (1998). Type: Malawi, 81 km. SW. of Mzuzu on road to Mzimba, Wiens & Frank 6619 (K!, holo., BR!, MAL!, MO!, iso.)
Information
Leafless dioecious often large pendulous shrubs with stems 1–2 m. long; internodes of distal branches strongly flattened, 20–35 mm. long, 2–4 mm. wide. Bracteal cups sessile in both sexes. Staminate and pistillate flowers sessile and borne singly. Style indistinct; stigma capitate at the summit of the ovary that is gradually elevated from the margin of the tepalar scars. Berries sessile, cylindrical until near maturity, then only slightly swollen as it ripens, 7 mm. high, 3.5 mm. in diameter; tepalar ring-scar 2 mm. in diameter. Fig. 5/3–5.

Notes
The species is vegetatively similar to V. combreticola and V. shirense, but is readily distinguished from both by the cylindrical fruits and the rounded staminate flowers which occur singly in the bracteal cup. Vegetatively V. cylindricum has somewhat longer and wider internodes than V. shirense, and narrower internodes than V. combreticola .
