Monoecious shrub or small tree 4–7(–12) m. tall, up to 0.7(–0.9) m. in girth; bark grey-green with brown patches, fissured; branchlets glabrous even when young. Leaf-blades elliptic, oblong-elliptic or oblanceolate, 5.5–15 em. long, 1.7–5.5(–7.5) cm. wide, obtuse or narrowly acuminate at the apex, cuneate or more rarely rounded at the base, not coriaceous, silky beneath when in young leaf-bud, later glabrous; lateral nerves 10–12, prominent above and beneath; reticulation of veins rather close, also prominent on both surfaces. Flowers yellow, greenish-cream or yellowish-pink, solitary or rarely paired; bracteoles inserted near the base of the pedicels, semicircular, 1–1.5 mm. in diameter, adpressed pubescent; calyx bilobed; petals free, subequal, more or less fleshy. Male flowers borne on leafy branches, axillary; pedicels 4–5 mm. long, adpressed pubescent; sepals almost round, 1–1.5 mm. in diameter, adpressed pubescent, glabrous; petals elliptic, 5–6 mm. long, 3 mm. wide, acute, glabrous inside, adpressed pubescent outside; stamens oblong, ±0.5 mm. long, the connectives not developed above the anther-cells. Female flowers axillary on leafless branches or on the trunk; pedicels 0.6–1.1 cm. long, adpressed pubescent; sepals semicircular, 2 mm. long and wide, acute, adpressed pubescent outside, glabrous inside; petals ovate-lanceolate to lanceolate, 0.5–1.1 cm. long, 3.5–5 mm. wide, pubescent; carpels subcylindric, 3–4 mm. long, 7–11-ovuled, densely pubescent; stigma ± 0.5 mm. wide. Fruiting pedicels 1–1.5 cm. long, thick; monocarps red, 4–6, oblong-ellipsoid to cylindrical, 1.7–4.5 cm. long, 1.1–1.8 cm. wide, mostly pointed at the apex, 3–10-seeded, ± constricted between the seeds, sparsely pubescent or glabrescent; stipes 3–5 mm. long. Seeds yellow-brown, ellipsoid or segment-shaped, 1–1.4 cm. long, 6–10 mm. wide, 4–6.5 mm. thick. Fig. 17.
