Cotyledon occultans Tolken in Bothalia 12: 191 (1977).
Information
Perennials with sparsely branched underground tubers up to 60 mm long with short sparsely branched stems up to 15 mm long and with pale bark. Leaves spathulate-orbicular, 4—12 x 3-14 mm, cuneate to al­most petiolate, obtuse, dorsiventrally com­pressed and slightly grooved above, more or less densely covered with blunt erect tri-chomes, deep green. Inflorescence a thyrse with l(-3) monochasia each with 1-3 flow­ers, glandular-pubescent; peduncle 8—15 mm long, pale; pedicel 5-13 mm long. Calyx 2-3,5 mm long, glandular-puberulous to pu­bescent, yellowish green; lobes triangular-lanceolate, acute. Corolla glandular-pubes­cent, pale yellow to yellowish green; tube cylindrical, 6-8 mm long, inside with few fine hairs mainly where filaments are fused to tube; lobes 3-4 mm long, recurved to re­coiled. Anthers 1-1,3 mm long. Squamae oblong, 1,1-1,3 x 0,2-0,4 mm, usually more or less emarginate, fleshy, yellow.
Use
14. Tylecodon occultans (Tolken) Tolken in Bothalia 12: 380 (1978). Type: Cape, near Bitterfontein, Hall 4289 (PRE, holo.!; NBG!).
Range
The species is known only from the north-western Cape Province from near Bitterfontein and near Stein-kopf but it occurs probably widely over the little-known eastern foothills of the Kamiesberg; growing on level areas or gentle slopes covered with quartzite gravel. Flowering period: February, March.
