dwarf, suffruticose, many-stemmed, densely hirsute; leaves lanceolate-oblong, obtuse, coarsely toothed, tapering at base into a short petiole; peduncles axillary, 1-flowered, free, much shorter than the leaves; calyx deeply 5-parted, laciniæ linear-lanceolate, acute; petals obovate. Root thick and woody. Stems 4–6 inches high, erect, simple or slightly branched. Every part of the plant thickly clothed with loose, coarse pubescence. Leaves 1–1 1/2 inches long, 4–5 lines wide, very hairy. Peduncles 4–7 lines long, curved or nodding. Flowers small, white? Calyx-tube not one-fourth as long as the lobes. Filaments flat, subulate, scarcely half as long as the petals. Ovary hirsute. Styles longer than the stamens; stigmas expanded, channelled, fimbrato-multifid.
