Notes
Plants from higher altitudes (1800–2500 m.) in the Elgon and Mt. Moroto areas differ from the typical T. macrocarpa in the rest of East Africa in possessing distinct stipuliform bracts at the petiole bases. These forms, which occupy a distinct area and have a higher altitude tolerance than the typical forms, have been distinguished as a separate species, T. harmsiana Bullock. They also differ from typical T. macrocarpa in the relatively shorter and broader receptacle-tubes and corolla-lobes, shorter-pedicelled always solitary ♂ flowers, and in their more nearly globose fruit. However, intermediates in the surrounding regions connect these forms with the typical one.
