Information
Stems up to 50 cm long, sometimes prostrate; all parts grey-green. Leaves: petiole 3–11 mm long; leaf-blade obovate-spathulate to obovate, up to 25 x 14 mm, base cuneate, tip rounded or retuse, often mucronulate. Peduncle 3–30 mm long. Perianth 9–15 mm long overall; tube 2–8 mm long, lobes 5–7 x 2.5–3.5 mm, tip rounded. Infructescence 6–8(–20) mm diam. with stout conical spines up to 5 mm long.
Range
N3; C1, 2 Ethiopia (Ogaden); NE Kenya; Namibia and adjacent areas of South Africa.
Altitude range
170–400 m.

SOMALIA Bally 9558; Gillett & al. 21994; Gillett & Beckett 23299.
Notes
Da’uleh, kaxar (Som.). The plants from Namibia are mostly more robust and have more flowers open at one time within the clusters, but there is no obvious discontinuity.
