Information
Loosely tufted annual; culms 12–30 cm. high, erect or ascending. Leaf-blades 1–5 cm. long, 1.5–4 mm. wide. Inflorescence 3–9 cm. long, cylindrical, often loosely so; clusters straight or slightly gaping at the tip, comprising 2 subequal spikelets, these arising at ± the same level without rhachis internode or prolongation. Spikelets 3–3.5 mm. long; upper glume 7-nerved, the prickles terete in their lower half and hooked at the tip.

Notes
Allied to T. racemosus (L.) All. from the Mediterranean region and South Africa, which also has a 7-nerved upper glume. In this species the clusters comprise 2–4 fertile spikelets which are always borne upon a distinct rhachis, the latter prolonged and bearing 1–2 reduced or rudimentary spikelets.
