Information
Lianescent subshrub 0.7–1 m high; most parts densely puberulent, stinging hairs common and painful. Petiole up to 2–5.5 cm long; leaf-blade ovate, 35–75 x 22–50 mm, 1.4–1.6 times as long as broad, base shallowly cordate with rounded sinus, tip acute, margins coarsely serrate to subcrenate with ± rounded teeth with acute to subacuminate tips. Inflorescences as in previous species. Female sepals accrescent to 7–14 x 5–11 mm with 4–6 lobes each side, midrib 2–5(–5) mm wide, densely covered with white to brown stinging hairs. Seeds as in previous species but dark brown to black between the paler blotches.

Notes
Material of this species has been confused with other species: the leaf shape approaches that of T. benthamii Bak., indumentum that of T. brevipes Pax and the less deeply divided fruiting sepals are similar to those of the East African species T. impedita Prain and T. insuavis Prain. There seems to be a case for regarding it as separate from all of these.
