Information
Perennial herb with several erect stems from large woody rootstock; stems to 40(–50) cm long, quadrangular, sparsely hirsute to lanate with long (to 4 mm) curly glossy non-glandular hairs. Leaves palmately veined; petiole 2–6 mm long on vegetative leaves, indumentum as on stems; lamina ovate to oblong or elliptic, largest 3–8≈1.5–4.2 cm, usually less than twice as long as wide, apex acute to obtuse, apiculate, base truncate to cordate with rounded to hastate lobes, margin entire to coarsely and irregularly dentate, pubescent to lanate (rarely sparsely pubescent). Flowers solitary; pedicels 1–4(–5) cm long, hirsute to lanate with long (to 4 mm) glossy non-glandular hairs; bracteoles dark green, with obscure reticulation, ovate or ovate-oblong, (1.2–)1.5–3.2≈0.5–1.4 cm, acute or subacute, pubescent to densely lanate with long (to 4 mm) glossy non-glandular hairs. Calyx glabrous to minutely puberulous, 1–2(–4 in fruit) mm high of which the broadly triangular lobes about half. Corolla limb and upper part of tube deep blue to deep purple, lower part of tube white, throat yellow; tube 3–5(–5.5) cm long; lobes (1–)1.5–2.3≈1.5–2.7 cm. Filaments 8–12 mm long, glabrous; anthers 2–3 mm long. Style glabrous. Capsule 8–10 mm in diameter, beak 12–20 mm long. Seed reddish brown, ± 6 mm in diameter, reticulate to spinulose near apex.
