Information
Woody-based perennial to slender shrub, 0.1–1.5 m tall, glabrous or occasionally scabrous; stems usually several, much branched above. Leaves linear, mucronate, 5–30 mm long, the upper ones smaller and scale-like. Spikes many, c. 2–3 cm long; bracts and bracteoles scale-like, subulate, shorter than flower and fruit. Flowers greenish-yellow outside, whitish inside; perianth 5-merous; lobes triangular, c. 1 mm long, hooded, densely villous within. Nut subglobose, 2.5–3 x 2.5–2.8 mm, conspicuously 10-ribbed and reticulate-nerved; persistent perianth c. 1/3 times as long as nut.

A record from Somalia of Thesium radicans Hochst. ex A. Rich. in Cuf. Enum.: 24 (1953) and repeated in Fl. Eth. 3: 380 (1990) and Fl. Arab. 1: 119 (1996) is based on Gillett 4230 which is T. hararensis. Also a record of T. fastigiatum A. W. Hill in Kuchar, The Plants of Somalia (1988), is based on material of T. hararensis (Gillett & Watson 23521).
