Information
Shrub or small tree 2–15 m high; trunk 4–40 cm in diameter; bark pale brown or grey brown, with large lenticels. Leaves petiolate; blade broadly to narrowly elliptic or obovate, 10–42(–50) cm long, 5–20(–26) cm wide, acuminate to acute at the apex, cuneate at the base; petiole 6–25 mm long, glabrous. Inflorescence 8–26 cm long, few to many-flowered, glabrous in all parts; peduncle glabrous, 3–14 cm long; pedicels 8–22 mm long. Flowers with sepals suborbicular or ovate, 4–7 mm long and wide, ciliate, with colleters within; corolla thick, fleshy; mature bud with a comparatively small broadly ovoid head with a blunt apex; tube pale green, almost cylindrical, throat yellow, 18–35(–42) mm long, 5–angular, sometimes slightly twisted at the base; lobes spreading, later recurved, white, sometimes pale yellow, obliquely elliptic, more or less falcate, 14–50 mm long, 6–18(–27) mm wide, rounded; stamens with apex up to 12 mm below mouth of corolla tube, inserted 8–14 mm above the corolla base; pistil glabrous, 15–20 mm long; ovary almost cylindrical; ovules about 100 in each carpel; style 7–10 mm long. Fruits pale green, often dotted, obliquely subglobose, 7–15 cm long, 6–18 cm in diameter, rounded, several- to many-seeded; pericarp 2.3–4 cm thick; aril white; seeds dark brown, coffee-bean-like, obliquely ellipsoid, 11–14 mm long.
