Annual herb, up to 1 m tall; stems pubescent and with scattered long simple hairs. Leaves with blade broadly elliptic to suborbicular or obovate in outline, sometimes shallowly 3-lobed, 2–10 x 1.5–8.5 cm, acute at the apex, cuneate to truncate at the base, with serrulate margin; petiole 0.7–5.5 cm long. Inflorescence pubescent, leafy to the apex or nearly so, with flowers clustered in the axils of the leaves; peduncle up to 3 mm long; pedicels up to 3 mm long. Sepals elliptic, 2–3 mm long, sparsely to densely pubescent, without horns. Stamens c. 5(–13). Ovary 2–celled. Fruit ovoid, body 3–4 mm long, densely pubescent; bristles 1–2 mm long, ascending, densely pilose and terminated by a hooked seta.
