Notes
Mabberley & Salehe 1495 (Kilosa District, Ukaguru Mts, Mamiwa Forest Reserve, summit of Mamiwa, 16 Aug. 1972, in mist forest at 2310 m – a dominant tree with Polyscias ) has to be regarded as a form of subsp. micklethwaitii but the inflorescence is pedunculate and has longer axes. Mgaza 611 (W Usambaras, Shagayu Forest, 30 Sept. 1964) with leaves up to 13.5 cm long, 8.5 cm wide is probably from a sapling or sucker shoot. There is great variation in the prominence of the venation in herbarium specimens from obscure to clear-cut and very prominent, correlated with a dull to very shiny surface e.g. in Faden et al. 386 from Kenya, Mbololo Hill, 13 May 1985.
