Information
Evergreen tree to 20 m tall or shrub 0.9–2 m tall with often wide spreading crown and dark brown rough scaly bark or trunk sometimes smooth; young stems often quadrangular or slightly winged but sometimes only obscurely angular. Leaves elliptic to elliptic-lanceolate or oblong-elliptic to almost round, 1.5–11 cm long, 0.9–5 cm wide, distinctly acuminate at the apex or in subsp. pachyphyllum cuspidate or shortly acuminate, cuneate, broadly rounded or subcordate at the base; petiole 1–8(–10) mm long. Inflorescence up to 6 cm long including peduncle, up to 8 cm wide. Calyx together with pseudopedicel 3–6 cm long, calyx-tube 3–4 mm long; lobes 0.5–1 mm long. Filaments 3–8 mm long. Fruit purple-black, subglobose, 1.2–1.5 cm long and wide, crowned by persistent calyx.
