Tree. Leaf-blades lanceolate to elliptic or narrowly ovate, 3.5–12 x 1–5 cm, obtuse to shortly acuminate at the apex, cuneate at the base, densely pinnatinerved; petiole 2–25 mm long. Inflorescences 5–10 cm in diam. Hypanthium (including pedicel-like lower part) and calyx together 3–6 mm long. Stamens 4–6 mm long. Fruits subglobose to ellipsoid, 7–12(–20) mm in diam.
Range
N1; S3 widespread in tropical and southern Africa.
Se-ed (Som.). The Somali material is subsp. guineense. According to White in Fl. Zamb. 4: 198 (1978) 11 subspecies can be recognized for Africa as a whole.
