Names
Suaeda plumosaAellen [family CHENOPODIACEAE], in Mitt. Bot. Staatss. München 4: 28 (1961); in Merxm., Prodr. Fl. SW. Afr. 32: 21–22 (1967). Type from Namibia.
Information
Succulent herb about 0.6 m. high. Leaves sessile, oblong to linear-oblong, c. 4–6 × 0.75–1.0 mm., subacute at apex. Flowers greenish-yellow, clustered 1–5 together in middle and upper axils; leaves subtending flowers 11/2–2 times as long as flowers. Hermaphrodite flowers not seen. Flowers about 1–2 mm. long. Stigmas 3, 0.5.7 mm. long, not conspicuously plumose, not arising from a basal disk or collar.
In general appearance, this is close to S. merxmuelleri except for the absence of a clear disk or collar at the base of the styles. It is very similar to and probably conspecific with specimens from Angola (Ward & Ward 31, Barbosa 9491), From Namibia (Tölken 452, Galpin & Pearson 7559) and Namaqualand (Schlechter 13a).
