plant about 1 ft. high; stem branched; branches virgate, pubescent when young; leaves opposite, lanceolate, acuminate, striate on the back when dry, strongly ciliate on the margins, otherwise glabrous; flowers in the axils of the leaves near the apex of the stem; bracteoles subulate, 2 lin. long; calyx pubescent outside; tube 3 1/4 lin. long, cylindrical, 1/5 lin. in diam.; lobes lanceolate, acuminate, 1 1/2 lin. long, 1/4 lin. wide; petals 4, oblong, thick, surrounded by hairs slightly longer than them; anthers 1/3 lin. long, apiculate; ovary oblong, glabrous; style filiform, hairy above. null
