Erect shrub to 1 m tall, often single-stemmed and unbranched; young branches yellowish hirsute to villose. Leaves sometimes clustered towards end of branches; petiole up to 2.5 cm long, villose; lamina elliptic to obovate, largest 14–25≈5–10 cm, apex rounded or drawn out into a short acute tip, base attenuate to truncate, pilose or sparsely so on both sides, densely so along midrib and larger veins. Cyme solitary, 4–11 cm long, sessile; rachis pilose; bracts yellowish green or slightly purplish tinged, ovate-elliptic or broadly so, 18–25≈8–17 mm, subacute to obtuse and apiculate, uniformly puberulous, margin entire (rarely dentate); bracteoles thickened at base, narrowly ovate, 12–19 mm long, cuspidate, puberulent on back, puberulous-ciliate and sometimes with puberulous midrib. Sepals thickened at base, narrowly ovate (dorsal slightly wider), 16–20 mm long, cuspidate, puberulent towards tip and finely ciliate. Corolla-limb pale lilac to purple; tube white, cylindric, basal part ± 5 mm long, twisted part ± 6 mm long, upper part ± 5 mm long; limb 5–7 mm long, slightly hooded.
