SPOROBOLUS longibrachiatus Stapf [family POACEAE], (1907);. type: N1, Appleton s.n. (K holo.).
Information
Densely tufted perennial arising from a short oblique rhizome, up to 45 cm high; basal sheaths yellowish, indurated, often covered by the fibrous remains of decaying sheaths; leaves 1–3 mm wide. Panicle ovate or narrowly ovate, 7–20 cm long, the primary branches slender, flexuous, bare below, the spikelets secund and clustered at the tips of the branchlets. Spikelets (1.5–)1.7–2.1(–2.4) mm long; lower glume lanceolate, acute, 0.8–1 mm long; upper glume narrowly ovate, acute, 2/3–4/5 the length of the spikelet; lemma narrowly ovate, as long as the spikelet; anthers 3, 0.8–1 mm long. Grain ellipsoid, c. 0.6 mm long.

Notes
Hamasut, madwedle, maheen suga, ramass (Som.). Similar to S. angustifolius but with generally smaller spikelets and relatively longer upper glume, and with the spikelets clustered at the tips of the branchlets rather than secund along their whole length. Spikelets over 2.1 mm are unusual, but the specimens concerned are clearly not S. angustifolius; it is doubtful whether it is worth recognising them as a distinct taxon because of so many other uncertainties in the systematics of this part of Sporobolus.
