Notes
Species 11 to 15 form a cluster of intergrading species. Sporobolus sanguineus and S. mildbraedii are distinguished by their elongated panicle and reddish spikelets. S. congoensis and S. centrifugus represent relatively homogeneous elements which it is reasonable to separate as distinct species. There remains a highly variable complex in which no clear subdivisions can be discerned, and which is here treated as a single species, S. mauritianus. .  Several tropical American species, notably S. cubensis Hitchc., also belong to this cluster, but seem not to be identical with any of the African species.
