Notes
Differences between S. kirkii and S. cyathuloides are gradual, though some floret characters seem disjunct. The main difference is the degree of spininess of the glomerule bracts. Ross-Craig named the intermediates S. cyathuloides var. acuminatus but I believe these bridge the gap between the taxa. S. cyathuloides is reduced to a variety here, with the understanding that there are intermediates for most characters.
