an erect shrub about 3 ft. high; branches thinly villous or pilose; leaves 3/4 in. long, scarcely 1/2 lin. thick, rather sharply mucronate, narrowly grooved on the upper side, otherwise terete, rather densely pilose when young, soon becoming quite glabrous; heads terminal, subsessile, about 3/4 in. in diam.; bracts 3 1/2 lin. long, subulate-linear, acute, villous with long weak hairs on the outside; perianth-tube 5/6 lin. long, glabrous; segments 4 1/2 lin. long; claws almost filiform, shortly pubescent, not coiled; limb 3/4 lin. long, ovate-elliptic, subacute, villous outside; anthers 1/2 lin. long; ovary obovoid, pubescent; style 5 lin. long, filiform, constricted at the base, glabrous; stigma 1/4 lin. long, ellipsoid, subacute; fruits nearly 2 lin. long, smooth, beaked. null
