Information
Shrub or tree, 3–15 m tall, evergreen, with finger-like aerial roots projecting upwards. Leaf-blades obovate to subcircular, 3.8–12.5 x 1.7–9 cm, rounded or emarginate at the apex, cuneate at the base; petiole 3–15 mm long. Flowers solitary or 3 together. Calyx 2.6–3.5 cm long; lobes 6–8, 1.2–2 cm long, becoming reflexed. Petals white, 13–20 mm long, resembling the filaments, soon falling. Filaments white, showy. Ovary 14–18-celled; style 4.5–5.9 cm long, with persistent base. Fruit 2.3–3 x 3.1–4 cm, green.
Range
S3 Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Comoro Is., Madagascar and eastwards to New Caledonia.
