Information
Erect annual herb 20–50 cm high, sometimes described as perennial; stems sparsely to densely pubescent or villous in lower part. Leaves sessile, lanceolate, oblanceolate or spatulate, 2.3–8 cm long, 0.5–1.8 cm wide, the basal cuneate-attenuate into exauriculate base, the median and upper auriculate and semi-amplexicaul, margins shortly remotely sinuate-dentate, apex acute to rounded or obtuse, apiculate, very sparsely to densely shortly pubescent. Capitula discoid, erect, long-stalked, 2–10 in lax terminal corymbs; stalks of the individual capitula glabrous. Involucre cylindrical 5.5–7 mm long, 2–3.5 mm in diameter; phyllaries 7–9(–13), 5–6.5 mm long, glabrous. Ray florets absent; disc florets yellow or orange-yellow; corolla 4–5.5 mm long, tube glabrous, lobes 0.7–1 mm long. Achenes 2.2–2.5 mm long, hairy; pappus 4–5 mm long.

Notes
USES. Minor medicine agains yaws (Tanner) CONSERVATION Due to its distribution and habitat, probably least concern (LC) Tallantire 661 from U 2, mile 40 Masaka–Mbarara road, might be a hybrid between E. kivuensis and E. caespitosa. Phyllaries 6 mm long, sparsely crispate; florets orange; outer florets female, subradiate with 4-lobed outer lip and 1-lobed inner lip; outer lip 1.5 mm long; tube 5 mm long; inner florets tubular; ovary 1.5 mm long, hairy; pappus 4.5 mm long; corolla 6 mm long, the tube with a few hairs, lobes 1 mm long. Lisowski, Aster. Fl. Afr. Centr. 2: 261 (1991) has E. kivuensis as a synonym of E. debilis.
