Information
Plant to 7 m tall, with trunk to 30 cm in diameter; pith 2.5–3 cm in diameter; stem normally cloaked with marcescent foliage (or with retained leaf-bases after fire) but eventually lost as bark develops. Periodic reproduction yields sparsely branched, spreading plants that rarely exceed five reproductive cycles. Leaf lamina elliptic or cordate, to 97 x 32 cm, with lower portion of leaf constricted with the lamina extending along the midvein and flared at the base, lower leaf surface glabrous except along midvein. Capitula presented horizontally. Ray florets 11–13, to 24 mm long; disc florets 40–70.

USES. None recorded on specimens from our area CONSERVATION Protected in the National Park; least concern (LC) Young plants in partly shaded situations at lower elevations may display some internode elongation.
