Information
Perennial herb, pyrophytic, 16–75 cm high; stems one to several, erect, virgate, leafy, sparsely arachnoid and glabrescent or glabrous, from a creeping woody rootstock. Stem leaves numerous, sessile, linear-lanceolate, 1.3–3 cm long, 0.1–0.2 cm wide, tapered at the base, margins entire and revolute, apex obtusely to acutely acuminate-apiculate, glabrous except for a few hairs at the very base. Capitula erect, radiate, few to numerous in lax to subumbelliform terminal corymbs; stalks of the individual capitula glabrous or almost so; involucre cylindrical, 3.5–5 mm long, 2.5–3.5 mm in diameter, glabrous or slightly pubescent at the base; bracts of calyculus 2–6, lanceolate or linear-lanceolate, 1–3 mm long, sparsely arachnoid or ciliate on margins or glabrous except at apex; phyllaries 8–10, 3–4.5 mm long, tapered to rounded and bearded at the apex. Ray florets 4–5, yellow, corolla tube 2.5 mm long, glabrous, rays 4.5–6.5 mm long, 1.5–2.5 mm wide, 4–7-veined; disc florets yellow to light brown, corolla 4–5 mm long, glabrous, gradually expanded above the middle. Achenes (immature) 2 mm long, glabrous; pappus 3.5–4.5 mm long, white.
