Selago nachtigalii Rolfe [family SCROPHULARIACEAE], in Verhandl. Bot. Ver. Brandenb. 31: 205 (1890). Type as above (as “nachtigali”).
Information
Erect or decumbent perennial herbs to 45 cm. tall; stems erect or subprostrate, branching mainly from base, minutely hispid or retrorse crisped-pilose. Leaves 10–15(20) mm. long and up to 1 mm. wide, linear or narrowly linear-lanceolate, acute, glabrous; axillary fascicles of leaves present throughout, half to two thirds the length of main leaves. Inflorescence corymbose of globose or elongate spikes arranged terminally at ends of stem and branches. Spikes up to 30 mm. long, c. 5 mm. in diam.; flowers sessile to subsessile. Bracts 2.5–4 x c. 1.25 mm. at base, lanceolate, somewhat boat-shaped, keeled, glabrous, ciliate on scarious margin at base, markedly longer than flowers. Calyx c. 0.8–1.25 mm. long, (2)3-lobed; lateral lobes c. 1 mm. long, narrowly elliptic-oblong, minutely ciliate, dorsal lobe smaller, filamentous to absent. Corolla white, 1.75–2.25 mm. long; lobes elliptic-oblong, about half as long as tube. Capsule 0.8–1.15 x 1.1 mm., somewhat compressed globular, smooth, glabrous, not distinctly muricate.
