Plant very dark green, prostrate and usually forming tufts or loose mats; main stems dorsiventral with respect to insertion and size of leaves (but see note), up to 20 cm long, 1–3-forked, or sometimes ascendant to ± 7.5 cm; rhizophores brown, scattered along the length of the plant, up to 4 cm long; branches becoming strongly incurved when dry. Leaves subdimorphic, linear-oblong or subulate, tapering into a ± translucent white to yellowish or brownish serrulate arista 0.7–0.8 mm long, less than 1/4 the length of the lamina, ciliate at the margins, the cilia more dentiform towards the summit; upper leaves ± 2.2 mm long, 0.3 mm wide, abruptly adnate at the base, lower leaves 2.5–3 mm long, 0.4–0.5 mm wide, slightly decurrent at the base. Strobili 3–18 mm long (0.5–1 mm fide Bizzarri – error for cm). Sporophylls in 4 ranks, slightly unequal, broader than the leaves, 1.8–2 mm long, ± 0.75 mm wide, long acuminate at apex, auriculate at base, margins ciliate at base and serrulate towards the apex; dorsal sporophylls slightly shorter and narrower than the ventral. Megaspores lemon yellow, 360–460 µm in diameter, reticulate with thin narrow wings and prominent triradiate ridge; microspores vermilion, 40–60 µm in diameter, rugose-tuberculate or echinate.
