Information
Shrub or small tree, rarely up to 15 m. tall, unarmed. Branchlets early greyish corticate and covered with numerous pale elongate lenticels. Leaf-blades rather variable in shape and size, oblong or oblanceolate, or obovate, or sometimes elliptic, apex usually shortly attenuate and obtuse, even rounded or a little emarginate, base cuneate, coriaceous, shining green above even when dry, entire though with a few distant impressed glands along the lower half of the edge, 3–9 cm. long, 2–4(–6) cm. broad; nerves 6–8 pairs, steeply ascending, not much different from the veins, the latter forming with the veinlets a dense network of elongate meshes which is markedly raised on both faces; petiole 2–8 mm. long. Flowers whitish-yellowish, 1–3 per axil; pedicel 0.5–1 mm. long at anthesis. Sepals ovate-suborbicular, densely pubescent outside and in the upper part of the inside, 2(–3) mm. long, reflexed at anthesis. Disk-glands 10–15, rather small. Stamens 40–60. Ovary glabrous. Fruit subovoid-globular, finely warty, reddish, 1–1.5 cm. across. Seeds 3–8(–12), ± 2 mm. across. Fig. 18.
