Information
annual, glabrous; stems tufted, 1–6 in. long, trigonous at the top, smooth; leaves about as long as the stem, 1/12– 1/10 in. broad; umbel simple or reduced to 1 head, up to 5 in. in diam.; bracts 3–5, overtopping the umbel, similar to the leaves; spikelets 5–40, closely spicate, compressed, green or brown, 1/2 by 1/6 in., 6–24-flowered; rhachilla not winged; glumes boat-shaped, ovate-lanceolate, 7–9-ribbed over nearly their entire width, keel green produced as a recurved bristle; stamen 1; anther oblong, not crested; nut 1/3 as long as the glume (bristle included), trigonous, narrow-obovoid, dull brown; style shorter than the nut, branches 3 linear, shortly exserted from the glume. null
