Information
glabrous; rhizome slender, becoming woody; stems 6–15 in. long, each bearing a head of 3–9 spikelets; leaves often as long as the stem, 1/12 in. broad, inrolled in the dried examples; lower bract 1/2–1 1/2 in. long, suberect so that the head appears lateral; spikelets 1/4 in. long or more, ellipsoid, dense, chestnut-brown; glumes broad-ovate, shortly acuminate, with radiating pale red nerves (exceedingly like those of Ficinia); nut as of S. setaceus, but a little larger.
