Information
glabrous; stem exceeding 8 in. in length, very slender; lowest bract placed more than 1/3 in. below the head, 3 in. long, filiform; two bracts close under the head, spreading, lower 1 in. filiform, dilated at the base; head 1/3 in. broad, depressed ovoid, dense, chestnut; glumes ovate, mucronate; nut 2/5 the length of the glume, obovoid-ellipsoid, trigonous, black, minutely transversely lineolate; style-branches 3 linear; gynophore small, obpyramidal, margin entire.Steudel, who originally described this species, had only the upper part of the stem, which is all Ecklon's specimens show. The plant, however, does not match any other species; it is nearest, perhaps, to F. tenuifolia, Kunth, but has more numerous spikelets and a more compound head. null
